2015 ACT Writing & Publishing Awards are Open

Awards Banner 2015The ACT Writers Centre’s 2015 Writing & Publishing Awards are currently open for entries. The awards recognise, reward and promote writing in the ACT community. Winners will be announced at the 2015 ACT Writers Centre Annual Awards Night in December.

We have a number of different awards including:

18th Annual Marjorie Graber-McInnis Short Story Award
This award was established by Don McInnis to commemorate the life of his wife, a short story writer who lived in Canberra and passed away on 25 September 1997. The Award is administered by the ACT Writers Centre. Entries must be between 1,500–3,000 words and can be on any theme. The author must reside permanently within the ACT or region. First prize: $600. The winning short story and up to three highly commended stories will be published in an issue of the ACT Writers Centre magazine, ACTWrite.
Closing date: Friday 18 September 2015

The Michael Thwaites Poetry Award
Entries must not exceed 50 lines. The author must reside permanently within the ACT or region. First prize: $300. The winning poem and up to three highly commended poems will be published in an issue of the ACT Writers Centre magazine, ACTWrite.
Closing date: Friday 18 September 2015

ACT Publishing Awards
The aim of the ACT Publishing Awards is to recognise, reward and promote writing by ACT region authors that has been published by small publishers or self-published. The Awards are administered by the ACT Writers Centre, and supported by Paperchain Bookstore, in recognition of the excellent writing published locally. There are four categories: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and children’s.
Closing date: Friday 11 September 2015
